Maternity leave (CSED) is 24 weeks (mother's choice: 4 weeks prenatal + 20 postnatal, or 24 postnatal). To be eligible, birth parent needs to be insured for 365+ days in 2 years before birth. After maternity, there’s an option to stay until the child turns 2 (GYED) and after GYED, there’s an option to stay at home until the child turns 3 (GYES). Source CSED: 100% of daily average gross earnings of previous year; no ceiling. 15% personal income tax deducted; no SSC or pension contribution on the benefit (mothers under 30 are PIT-exempt up to HUF 576,601/month gross in 2024). No explicitly shareable birth leave. CSED, GYED, GYES is birth parent only and there is separate transferable parental leave.

10 working days (2 weeks), taken within 4 months of birth can be split into max 2 parts. Source First 5 days (week 1): employer pays 100% gross salary, taxed at standard NPATR 33.5%. Next 5 days (week 2): health insurance pays 40% of daily absence allowance, taxed at 15% PIT + 10% pension = 25%. Blended rate = (5×1.0 + 5×0.4) / 10 = 70%. Source

Parental leave (szülői szabadság): 44 working days (8.8 weeks) per parent independently, until child turns 3; requires 1 year of employment. Can be split. GYED (80 wks): 70% of gross weekly woman, capped at HUF 104,289.23/week (= HUF 451,920/month × 12/52), net at 75% (15% PIT + 10% pension). GYES (52 wks): HUF 28,500/month flat, net HUF 307,800 total (10% pension only). Year-1 figure takes 24 wks CSED + 28 wks GYED within first 52 weeks.
